Our Year 8 Rounders team were delighted to play their first fixture versus Nether Stowe as we continue our joint work with them in opening up competitive sports amidst the COVID rules.

Once we’d shaken off the nerves, The Friary opted to field first, to see what score they needed to compete with.

We made a promising start stopping half rounders with excellent team work between back stop and 2nd post – keeping the target low. A strong start made. Next we had to bat well, in which we did using good tactical awareness. We made good use of varying the left and right handed batters scoring a excellent 7 rounders.

Time for innings 2 and a mix up of the team due to excellent numbers attending practise. Again, fantastic fielding, but they took advantage of a few mistakes, keeping the game all the play for. Final innings and we need 5 rounders to win!

From excellent encouragement from each other we managed it and overall won the game by 2 and half rounders.

Hollie Wright, PE teacher and team coach, said: “I was super proud of the girls’ sportsmanship and attitude – well done ! Bring on next summer and more fixtures to play.!
