We have been getting our students to focus on local tourism as part of celebrating English Tourism, but also encouraging our students to value and celebrate the fantastic locale that we live in.
Year 9 students have worked with their Geography teachers to produce a video guide to local tourist attractions and to celebrate all that is Lichfield and our local district.. The video includes quick-fire profiles of the Cathedral and Beacon Park, brings in Erasmus Darwin and Samuel Johnson, and touches on some of the local landmarks that our students may often walk past without really taking in their significance.

Our Focus Week has tutor time activities linked to employment opportunities, publicity around the school, and builds on the work we do with lots of related local businesses including The George Hotel and Arthur Price. The week was also supported by Lichfield District Council.
Elsewhere, all schools within the Greywood Multi-Schools Trusts have undertaken their own projects on this theme.
Susan Sheridan, Head of Geography, said,: “We are very much a school that likes to celebrate what goes on locally and the video team really enjoyed flagging up to their peers the local sights which they may sometimes take for granted as they walk by. Equally, with many of our families and staff living locally. we are all keen to see our city and surrounding area thrive as we steadily move out of lockdown. A busy and vibrant city only adds to the local geography we can teach.”
