Katie Hayward left The Friary Sixth Form last summer and is now studying Mathematics at Nottingham University.
She has taken the time to let us know how she is getting on:
“Since leaving the Friary School, I have gone on to study Mathematics at the University of Nottingham (UCAS Code G103). This will be an integrated masters degree to take place over 4 years.
Since my move to university, I have had to adapt my learning style and have learnt new skills, such as the ability to work online and independently in order to adapt with the current situation. This has brought with it new challenges such as time management, which even though I have managed during school life, a change in environment brought new experiences for me.
However, after a few weeks, I found myself a routine which worked well for me. I’m still unsure as to what I want to do career-wise after university, but the choice of modules in the coming years of study and the opportunity to have a year in industry with the university will definitely help with that and will open up lots of new avenues for me.
My time at The Friary, and certainly the experiences I gained whilst in the Sixth Form have shaped me as an individual and given me the confidence to further my education to degree level.
Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “Katie was a student we thought such a lot of – she was bright, hard-working, kind and 100% committed. She took on a lead in student charity work in the Sixth Form and was a fantastic role model. We are delighted she is doing well at such a high-ranked university.”
