In keeping with our commitment to provide students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support when choosing their next step after school, we will now be using Unifrog; an award-winning, online careers platform. All students in Year 11 now have access to this excellent website and have had an assembly explaining how to use it.
Unifrog brings into one place every undergraduate university course, apprenticeship, and college course in the UK, as well as other opportunities, such as School Leaver Programmes, MOOCs and every college at Oxford and Cambridge. This makes it easy for students to compare and choose the best university courses, apprenticeships or further education courses for them.
All students have already been issued with a sign-up code, which is unique to their form group. They then login using their email address and password and they can do so from any computer, tablet or smartphone. We would encourage you to use the platform with your child so you can support them through the process of deciding their next step.
We have also set up a parent login so that you can use Unifrog as if you were a student yourself, allowing you to truly support your child. The form code you need is: friaryparents and you can sign up here: www.unifrog.org/code.
For more information, go to www.unifrog.org or contact myself directly.
Elsewhere, the Sixth Form Open Evening is due to take place on Thursday 12th November.
We plan to put information for parents and external applicants on the website but we would also like to give students the opportunity to talk to teachers about Sixth Form courses and about their suitability for their chosen subjects.
We feel we can safely do this as Year 11 students are in their own bubble and teachers will be able to socially distance in the rooms we are using. Therefore, on Thursday 12th November, from 3.05pm to 4.30pm, we would like to hold an Open Evening strictly for current Year 11 students. Students must report to the lecture theatre at 3.05pm for 20 minutes where we will give them further details about the application process and a copy of this year’s prospectus.
Please be aware that students are free to leave at any point during the evening once they have gathered the information they require but they will need to make their own way home.
We will also be holding a live 30 minute Q&A session at 6.30pm on Thursday 12th November on The Friary School Facebook page. Please email any specific questions in advance to office@friaryschool.co.uk.
Carrie Cain, Assistant Headteacher, said: “This careers guidance is part of our whole school programme and with both internal and external providers helping educate our students on post-school destinations and pathways we know we do a great job. We are looking forward to seeing our Year 11s finalise their post-exam routes and it is good to see they realise that their exam results are critical to them reaching their goal.”
