After the buzz of the Y7 Open Evening, we are usually looking forward to the Sixth Form Open Evening, but what with COVID restrictions on bubbles and people coming on-site, we are limited to what we can do.

Naturally, we welcome applications from external students – we have benefitted from some wonderful additions in recent years – Head Girls and all – and our virtual experience and online materials will come live on the day the event would have taken place: Thursday 12th November.

Even so, what we can do is given a ‘real’ Open Evening experience to or current Year 11s as it retains the bubble and means they can talk to teachers about courses, options and routes.

At the end of school, Year 11 students will go directly to the Lecture Theatre at 3.05pm for 20 minutes to receive an overview of the process and benefits of further study.

Following on, students will head off to meet with subject teachers to discuss their options and plans and to make sure that they get all of the information they need to make informed and realistic choices. There will also be a Sixth Form help desk where students will receive this year’s prospectus and option blocks.

Carrie Cain, Assistant Headteacher, said: “We know there are many Year 11s who will thrive in our Sixth Form and we are keen to give them every opportunity to consider the pathways that lay out before them. Naturally, parents are missing out, but our online provision will be available, and we are always open for questions via sixthform@friaryschool.co.uk.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “The evening is always an important event as it focuses students’ minds on what they want to do and what they need to get to do it. The future plans are important, but it is the information that directs the here and now that makes all the difference. There is plenty of time for students to shine in the summer providing they get their head down and work to make their dreams become a reality.”
