For at least the last ten years, we have celebrated the many talents of Friary pupils at our annual Summer Sizzler. An evening of music and sunshine where we always seem blessed with the weather and are able to enjoy the outdoors and a truly festival ‘vibe’. This event is at the heart of our school community and brings together everything that is great about our pupils, parents and staff.
This event would not normally be possible without the hard work of our pupils and staff who throughout the year rehearse and perform relentlessly to bring high quality acts to the stage. Despite the lockdown, it is great to see that they continue to be passionate about music and have eagerly rallied to put together some special performances for you to enjoy this year.
Each year, the Summer Sizzler is supported by The Friary School PTFA both financially and at the event itself. A brilliant group of parents get together to run the bar, BBQ and homemade curry stall and help the school to raise much needed funds. All of the funds raised by the PTFA are put back into the school and spent on things that will directly impact on every child. This year they have donated £13,000 towards the furniture for the extension of the new canteen which will provide much needed indoor seating for our pupils.
During this year’s virtual Summer Sizzler we are creating an opportunity for you to donate to our PTFA via your Parent Pay account. As a result of the restrictions imposed on us by Covid 19 the PTFA have been unable to run the many fundraising events we put on each year. Any donation made, however small, will be gratefully received and go to supporting your child at The Friary School.
Lottie Hearn, Assistant Headteacher said “I think it is fantastic that the pupils and staff have still been able to create a ‘Sizzler’ for this year. There are some great performances as well as some familiar guest presenters! We hope that everyone takes the time to have a listen and support our pupils and PTFA. I only hope that next year we can all be together again on the field for the best ‘Summer Sizzler’ reunion – ever!”
