The Autism Service for South Staffordshire is offering an ‘Introduction to Autism’ workshop on Tuesday 3 March at 13.30pm at East Staffs Children Centre, 248-257 Waterloo Street, Burton, DE14 2NJ. This course offers an excellent opportunity for parents and families to understand their child’s diagnosis – whether for families with a recent diagnosis or those looking to further their existing knowledge and meet other families.

Elsewhere, there is also the offer of a workshop on ‘Understanding Sensory Processing in Children with Autism (for Parent / Carers)’ at the same location on Thursday 19 March between 10.00am-12.30pm. It will cover the basic theory on sensory processing and help with identifying sensory behaviour in children with autism. There will also be guidance on strategies to use in everyday life to support your child.

Finally, there is series of two workshops for children (accompanied by a parent / carer) entitled ‘Me, Myself and Autism’. It takes place on Tuesday 21 April between 1.00-3.00pm and Tuesday 28 April between 1.00-3.00pm and is staged at Glascote Library, 80 Caledonian, Glascote, Tamworth, B77 2ED. The sessions help children to understand their autism and there will be an opportunity for parents to talk to autism specialists to address any specific issues.

To book a place on any of these courses either email cypautismservice@mpft.nhs.uk or telephone 0300 303 0691.

Mark Drury, Assistant Headteacher and SENCO, said: “We work with a wide range of external agencies to support our students and are always keen to flag up opportunities for students and parents to obtain additional backing. We would recommend any families with children who have autism to make use of these sessions if they can.”
