The annual ‘Battle of the Bands’ evening took us back to the 1990s this year and a busy theatre was treated to music taking many parents back to the days when they were footloose and fancy free.

There was a string of fantastic acts that came out and whilst there were some thrashing guitars, there were also some pop classics.

The X-Factory-style judging panel, more OTT than Simon and Louis, found it very difficult to decide on the placings, but after much deliberation, the Top 3 were:

1. “Man I Feel Like A Woman” by Shania Twain
Performed by ‘The Girl Group’ (Amy Cundill, Katie Edwards, Erin Fry, Anneka Horne, Holly Rolfe)

2. “What’s Up” by 4 Non-Blondes
Performed by Mae & Millie Bennett

3. “All The Small Things” by Blink-182
Performed by ‘The Ashes’ (Maddie Gardner, Ben Jones, Ash Simpson, Izzy Smith, Will Stansbie, Dan Townsend)

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “The students performed wonderfully and the staff were rightly thrilled with the evening. For many parents, the 1990s theme was very nostalgic, and there were some great conversations about yesteryear. We are already looking for the 2000s next year – Peter Andre’s ‘Insania’ anyone ?”
