Sixth Form students were visited by Sonia Short (CIOB) and alumni student Gemma Writer (MCIOB) who graduated at the Chartered Institute of Building last summer.

Gemma left the Friary 9 years ago and now works for Turner Townsend as a Senior Cost Manager. I have attached the presentation from today as I thought you may like to see it as Gemma has a history at The Friary School.

Gemma was keen to get involved with students at The Friary School to discuss her role at the CIOB, and help the younger generation understand more about careers, Higher Degree Level training opportunities, work experience and apprenticeships in construction and inform about the skills shortage gap in this area.

Sarah Cresswell, Head of Sixth Form, said “ This has been a fantastic opportunity for our Sixth Form students and a very informative one. This will help students explore the construction industry for future career aspirations and have a better awareness of careers of this type.
