A newly formed U13 girls’ team took on Lichfield Cathedral in a mini-tournament this week, which saw some of our Year 7’s make their first debut in our school hockey team.

Year 7’s Poppy Whitworth and Gabriella Cole Pearce not only established themselves by displaying some skilful hockey but also got themselves on the score-sheet.

The two 7 a-side teams had never played as a unit before so to win 2 games, draw 1 and lose 1 was a fantastic achievement for your first tournament of the year. Certainly, the girls are looking forward to their next match against EDA on 21 October.

Amidst a large number of excellent performances, Poppy Grimshaw (Y8) was awarded Player of the Tournament for her speed, agility and ball precision on the wing.

Ms Fallows, team coach, said: “I’m very excited for this season as we have a lot of interest for hockey here at The Friary and the standard of pupils coming through is very good for our success within this sport.”
