We were delighted to received news from Nic Jones, the Red Box Co-Ordinator for Lichfield, to say that the government had announced that they plan to extend their offering of free menstrual products to include primary schools, as well as secondary schools and colleges. That means all schools and colleges will have free menstrual products in January 2020, in England, Wales and Scotland.

The details are yet to be announced or worked out, but the Government will now launch one complete scheme in January 2020, and it is hoped that it will lead to a consistent, well-considered approach across all schools.

The Red Box Project will continue to supply menstrual products to schools until the Government scheme is in place, so our school will continue to work with the Lichfield scheme until December 2019.

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “The Red Box Project has been, and continues to be, a fantastic scheme and their work now looks to have led to government action. This is great news for local families and allows students to focus on their learning without menstrual concerns and underlying poverty creating anxiety.”
