This week saw Y12 attend the UCAS Higher Education Exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham as part of their essential preparations for post-18 options. Whether continuing their studies at university, taking up a higher level apprenticeship or travelling the world as part of a gap year, all options were covered as part of the roadshow-style event.
The exhibition saw the university route taking centre stage and included extensive guidance on how to choose the right course, the right university and the right city. The interactive 360° Dome Experience helped students focus on vocational choices after university by guiding them down potential career paths including engineering and IT.
The range of exhibitors at the fair was representative of the increasing desire by many sixth formers to move into higher level apprenticeships or degree courses where strong links to the business world guarantee graduate employment with large public limited companies. In addition, alternative options were presented including gap years, volunteer work and career opportunities within the armed forces.
Carrie Cain, Assistant Headteacher, said: “This event is a vital step in the Raising Aspirations Programme for our sixth formers. There have never been more options post-18 and we recognise that we have a crucial role in making sure our students are well-informed and ready to make the best possible choice for themselves and their families.”
