Our Mental Health Awareness Week included the latest round of the House Debating Competition and the four Houses battled in debates surrounding the impact of social media on mental health.

Candidates argued ‘For or Against’ and scored points for their argument, style and supporting evidence and the topic gave plenty of mileage in terms of reasoning and even experience.

The final placing saw: (1) Johnson – 56 points; (2) Seward – 35 points; (3) Garrick – 34 points; (4) Darwin – 31 points. The winning Johnson House team consisted of Sky Bennett, Evie Francis, Jack Sandel and Sam Piper and they were very worthy winners.

Elsewhere, Aimee Whillis (Garrick) and Mary Hughes (Darwin) were named as the ‘Most Valuable Debaters’.

Jason Cain, Assistant Headteacher, said: “The Debating Competition has been fantastic all year and the Y8s did not disappoint. Johnson House were superior but the other teams were very impressive too and I know they will be after revenge next year.”
