As our Y12 students begin to consider their options beyond Sixth Form, preparations for potential university applications kick started this week with our annual visit to the Oxford and Cambridge Student Conference.
Taking over Edgbaston Cricket Ground for the day, this roadshow style event gave students the chance to talk to experienced lecturers, admissions tutors and subject specialists about the finer details of the application process. It also gave them the opportunity to hear first-hand how current undergraduate students find life at Oxford and Cambridge, as well as learning course specific details and gaining insights into the unique interview processes at both universities. Our aim is for our students to leave the roadshow having explored the breadth of subjects on offer to them, gained a deeper insight into what courses involve and deepened their understanding of how both universities assess applications.
Mrs Cain, Director of Sixth Form, said, “Students sometimes find applying to Oxford or Cambridge a daunting prospect. This event goes a long way towards levelling the playing field and ensuring our students understand the holistic approach required to make a competitive application. The presentations and workshops our students were able to participate in today will help put them ahead of the game and give them the confidence to make an informed choice about which subjects to study, where to study and give them the best possible chance to receive offers from these two leading universities”.
