The Year 8 Friary football team showed tremendous fight and determination to run out 5-2 winners against a strong EDA side last night. It was a stop-start game with the wind and a bobbly pitch putting a stop to any football played.

In the first half, Friary soaked up a lot of pressure with Jack Sandal keeping the boys in the game with some fantastic sides. The Friary continued to lose the physical battle but showed glimpses of what they could do with the ball at their feet.

Even so, The Friary’s quality shone through leading to them catching EDA off guard from a throw-in so Thomas Larkin could burst through and score. Also, Devan Klair popped up from 30 yards out to lob the keeper with the outside of his right foot. However, EDA got 1 back with 1 minute to go to make it a nervy start to the 2nd half.

When both teams came back out, Friary battled hard and started to overcome EDA’s physical advantage by keeping possession of the ball. This led to The Friary creating a host of chances. Tom Larkin and Louis Cope were in no mood to miss and scored with every shot they had. Friary’s dominance over the ball made it a comfortable second half and we ran out 5-2 winners.

Onto the next round!
