Despite the pressures of coursework and exams fast approaching, Year 11 Health & Social Care students took some time out to volunteer for a becoming a ‘dementia friend’ session this week.

They took part in an interactive information session to learn how dementia affects people.

As part of the Student Volunteering Focus Week, the Year 11s decided to volunteer to do a good deed and learn about how to support individuals with dementia and they each made a lifelong pledge on something they will adapt in the future to support people with dementia.

Kim Fallows, Head Health & Social Care, said: “I was very impressed with the attitude and interest shown by the students at such a stressful and busy time for them. Carrie Jahn, from the Spires Care Home, Lichfield, was excellent in delivering the training and her support in allowing students to visit in preparation for their final assignment has been fantastic.”
