This year’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ saw the Friary students tackle the theme of performing music from the 1980’s in front of a full theatre of spectators and a host of expert judges.

Hits were performed from artists including The Cure, Queen and ABBA and it certainly was an evening of great songs and much entertainment.

The winning act was Isabella Keelings band performing the ABBA classic ‘The Winner Takes It All’, closely followed by Mae Bennett, Millie Bennett and Erin Fry’s cover of the 80’s hit ‘Inbetween Days’.

Their ensemble musicianship, attention to detail and 80’s costumes won over the crowd and judges with their fantastic stage presence.

The theme for next year’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ is music from the 1990’s, so be prepared to hear an all-out Brit-Pop battle!

Jason Cain, Assistant Headteacher, said: “There were a string of fantastic performances and for many teachers and parents it was very much a journey back to their teens; from Mr Drury’s Morrissey quiff to Mr Rose’s highwayman outfit. Everyone is already looking forward to the 1990s battle next year.”
