Katie Edwards (Y12) shone at the Lichfield Music Festival with her performance of Romance and Fugetta from Finzi’s Five Bagatelles and she received high praise from Luan Shaw, co-principle clarinet with Orchestra of the Swan and Senior Lecturer at Birmingham Royal Conservatoire.
Katie was awarded a Distinction and was credited with: “very well shaped, sensitive playing. A beautifully characterised interpretation, played with energy and vigour, with a very good sense of rhythm”. There was also a comment noting the rapport between clarinet and piano accompaniment: “The ensemble was super”.
The performance only built on the recognition Katie is receiving from elsewhere, including the funding awarded by the Friends of Staffordshire Young Musicians so she can continue working towards her ARSM Diploma.
Carrie Cain, Assistant Headteacher, said: “We are incredibly proud of Katie’s accomplishments and she has proved a wonderful addition to our Sixth Form. It is very much a case of ‘Watch This Space’ as she moves forward with her musicianship.”
