The Year 7 netball team played brilliantly in their Cannock and District Netball tournament last night which saw 12 schools from the local area competing against each other. Having sailed through the first round, beating 4 other schools and drawing 1 match, and after a tough semi-final match against Chase Terrace where extra time had to be applied, we got through to the finals.
Unfortunately, with several players having to head back to ‘Encore’, and others picking up injuries (adding to the workload at Samuel Johnson), the tired and depleted team missed out against a strong King Edwards team.
Anne-Marie Bennett, team coach, said: “We played with excellent team work and motivation and thoroughly deserve our runners up status. The team has flourished this year and we look forward to returning next season to continue our strong successful start.”
Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “There is so much going on at school at the moment that the netball teams found themselves thinning out towards the finals – I guess sportswomen and performers cannot be in two places at once. I know the girls thoroughly enjoyed the matches and have loved the excellent coaching through the season. The PE team continue to do an amazing job and the students match up to this benchmark.”
