Jane Hare, Secretary of Lichfield Foodbank, has contacted our school to express her gratitude for the food donations gathered in during the run-up to Christmas and which provided 61 full meals.
The clients for the Foodbank are referred to the service with a voucher from many agencies in the area who are in a position to see that people are in difficulty and facing food crisis. At the Distribution Centres, which are on Wade Street Church and at the Life Church in Netherstowe, the voucher is exchanged for a carefully selected package of non-perishable food – tins, dried goods, long life milk and juice sufficient to provide at least three days food. They are also tailored to the age groups and numbers in the household.
This year the Foodbank prepared and gave out 260 Christmas hampers for people who needed to use the foodbank in the approach to Christmas and by Christmas 2017 and pour donations helped to meet local needs.
Lottie Hearn, Assistant Headteacher, said: “Our commitment to our home community has seen us target our fund-raising to only local charities so that we can be sure that Lichfield students help local Lichfield families. We hugely admire the work of the team at the Foodbank and we are grateful for the valuable work they do and which helps children on our own school roll.”
