Year 7 will be completing our Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT)  this week in order for us to baseline their skills and better understand where and how we need to be stretching and challenge each child.

The CATs are produced by GL Assessments and are done online. They are not something students can revise for, more they are to test their general abilities and inform how we target set and teach them.

Oli Forster, Assistant Headteacher, said: “These tests have proved very useful as we seek to set appropriate targets and pitch our teaching to the right level. They are particularly useful as we move from Level Descriptions to the new 9-1 grading system for GCSEs which is effectively now being applied across all secondary schools. This is a tough step as for many subjects there is a lack of clarity to what an individual 9-1 grade actually looks like.”
