Last weekend saw out first Saturday School of 2017-2018 and it heralded the start of the programme which intensifies as we move on through the school year.
These sessions focused on the key skills required for the English Language Component 2 exam. It prepared students for the looming mock exams and supported students’ revision by working through the challenging questions based on two non-fiction texts, concluding with a comparison between the two.
The session also encouraged students to consider their approach to a variety of transactional writing tasks and focused on including a range of points which they could then fully develop into paragraphs.
The two masterclasses focused on different grade benchmarks with one targeting the extra challenge demanded of the 7-9 grades, whilst the second one supported those students targeting 5-6 grades at this stage.
Ian Rose, Deputy Headteacher, said: “Our Saturday School sessions only reflect the dedication of our school to support all students facing exams. It is our mission to help every student to achieve their best possible grade and when we have specialist teachers, many of whom are examiners, then we are in a very strong position to make these masterclasses work very well indeed.”
