‘Misunderstood’ are a UK Pop / R&B duo made up of Stephan Benson and Jeffrey Okyere. They are graduates from the famous BRIT School of Performing Arts and appeared on the Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finals in dance group “Myztikal”. They have also supported MOBO Award Winner “Chipmunk” and the legendary Grammy winners Boyz II Men on tour.

The duo are also committed to challenging stereotypes, intolerance and bullying and use their profile to educate young people. They have toured the country taking their powerful PSHEE message into over 200 schools.

They engaged Friary students with a remarkable dance and singing set they then shared their experiences of feeling isolated and misunderstood. They referred to their appearance on Britain’s Got Talent and the social media coverage that followed – some of which was very difficult to process because it was so critical and personal.

They also discussed British Values and their importance in society so that students could reflect on prejudice, intolerance, respect, democracy and the rule of law.

Ian Rose, Deputy Headteacher, said: “This was a very upbeat and lively visit and when you combine fantastic R&B with the key themes of responsibility tolerance and respect then it is certainly a winning message. The students enjoyed the event and all the feedback shows that the more serious topics were reflected on and hit home.”
