We wished to share with former Friary students and the local community that Peter Riggulsford, the former Headmaster of The Friary School, passed away on 16th May 2017.
Many Lichfield people will remember The Friary School was formerly a girls’ grammar before becoming a comprehensive school under Mr Riggulsford’s leadership in 1971. The school doubled in size during the first few years of his headship and it was Mr Riggulsford’s skilled leadership which made such a challenging transition period run very smoothly.
Mr Riggulsford remained in post for the next 15 years and many local people will hold his memory in respect and affection.
Matt Allman, the current Headteacher, said: “The Friary School is an exceptional place to work and there is no doubt that the contribution of Peter Riggulsford played a huge part in setting up a comprehensive school that has seen generations of students grow up to flourish in adult life. We send all out condolences to Peter’s wife and family and thank him for his life and work.”
