Goal fest sees Under 14 Girls continue winning ways

The U14 girls' hockey team continued their impressive run of form with a fantastic victory against Lichfield Cathedral, building on their successful win over King Edward's before half term.

The team arrived full of confidence and determination, eager to secure another win. Reflecting on the squad's recent progress, Coach Fallows said:

"The girls are really enjoying hockey, coming to training weekly and constantly asking when their next game is. The way they are playing together in such a short space of time is lovely to watch."

One of the standout performers of the tournament was Ava C, who stepped out of goal and into an outfield position with remarkable success. Ava was unstoppable in attack, scoring an incredible four goals and it seems Friary may have discovered a new position for her!

Year 7 pupil Martha R once again demonstrated her eye for goal, adding two more goals to her growing tally. Izzy B and Beatrice W also found themselves on the scoresheet, helping the team reach an impressive nine-goal haul. Scoring nine goals in an U14 tournament is a fantastic achievement and highlights the attacking talent within the squad.

In midfield, Emily W once again delivered a strong and composed performance, making several crucial defensive stops to break up opposition attacks. Iris A produced some excellent passes into space, allowing the Friary attackers to move forward with purpose and create scoring opportunities.

Isabella JG and Eva S worked tirelessly, making intelligent runs and linking up well with teammates throughout the tournament. Anna B showed great determination in midfield, battling hard to win possession and support attacks down the wings.

Defensively, Joanna JG and Violet H were outstanding, displaying non-stop determination to ensure the opposition rarely threatened the Friary goal. Their commitment and organisation helped prevent the opposition from registering a single shot on target. Ava H was strong in midfield and pushing high to cross the ball across the D for others to fire home the ball.

A special mention must also go to Georgina G, who made her debut for the team. Georgina settled into the match brilliantly, producing a solid defensive display and striking several excellent balls from the hit-out area. Katie L and Olivia W regulars to the hockey field, performed well linking with their teammates and pushing balls wide to prevent the opposition attacking.

Overall, it was a superb tournament performance from the Friary girls, packed with goals, teamwork, determination and enthusiasm. The Overall Player of the Tournament award, selected by Ms Fallows, Head of PE, was awarded to Izzy B for her sheer passion and relentless effort on the wing. Her determination to drive the ball into the D created numerous attacking opportunities and was deservedly capped with a goal of her own.

Congratulations to all the girls on another outstanding performance and a thoroughly deserved victory. The future looks very bright for this talented U14 squad.
