Friary Hockey Girls Triumph Again

Another girls' team secured their second win of the week in impressive fashion, overcoming Lichfield Cathedral School 3-1 in an entertaining and hard-fought contest.

The opposition started the match strongly and made coach Fallows a little nervous as Lichfield Cathedral created numerous chances during the opening ten minutes. Fortunately for Friary, several opportunities went begging, while Ava C, returning to goal for this fixture, produced a series of excellent saves to keep the scores level and give her team a chance to settle.

Once Friary finally woke up, they began to find their rhythm. Their breakthrough came through Isabel B, who struck a superb effort into the back of the goal to give Friary the lead and lift the team's morale. The confidence quickly spread throughout the side, and just before half-time, Esme M once again demonstrated why she is such an influential player in central midfield. Drawing on her club-level experience and skill, she weaved past several opposition players before firing a powerful strike home to double Friary's advantage.

The girls were buzzing at the break, but the half-time team talk focused on staying alert, with the warning that Lichfield Cathedral would come out fighting in the second half. That prediction proved correct. Just a few minutes after the restart, the visitors pulled a goal back and suddenly the game was very much alive.

To their credit, Friary did not let the pressure affect them. Natalie W and Lucy OC worked tirelessly to stop attacks developing and prevent the ball from entering the opposition's attacking areas. Behind them, Abby Y, Violet H and Lyra T dealt brilliantly with dangerous runs and balls played into the D, while sweeper Tabitha R was outstanding in clearing her lines and moving the ball wide to relieve pressure. Well done to the entire defence for a resilient performance.

Further up the pitch, Joanna JG and Summer R combined well, linking play effectively and feeding the midfielders. Carys L enjoyed a strong game in midfield, helping her team maintain possession and distribute the ball intelligently. Ava H also deserves special recognition for a fantastic performance, adapting seamlessly while playing in a variety of positions throughout the match.

As the game entered its final stages, Friary continued to create opportunities. Esme M and Natalie W both came close to adding to the scoreline, but their efforts drifted wide. The girls kept battling, however, and their determination was rewarded when Esme M finally grabbed her second goal of the afternoon to seal a deserved 3-1 victory.

A fantastic team performance, another excellent win, and a second triumph of the week for the Friary girls. Awesome work, girls!
