Year 11 Engineering Students Explore Engineering in Action at Alton Towers

Last week, our Year 11 Engineering students enjoyed an exciting and educational visit to Alton Towers, where they had the opportunity to see engineering principles brought to life through some of the UK's most famous roller coasters.

As roller coasters form part of their examination studies, the visit provided a valuable chance to explore real-world engineering concepts first-hand. Students were able to examine ride design, track structures, safety systems and the technology that enables these complex attractions to operate safely and efficiently.

Student Adam P said:

"It was a fun and enjoyable experience. I'd never been to Alton Towers before, and I will definitely be going back in the future. Although I've been on roller coasters before, I've never really thought about the shape of the tracks, how the cars stay on the track, or the safety systems behind the different types of rides. The visit helped me to understand the engineering involved much better."

The trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with real-world applications and gain a deeper appreciation of engineering in practice.
