As part of our Black History Month celebrations, we have looked at the role of history in celebrating all of our past’s and how those past’s shape who we are today.
Our family history, our national history and global history very much shape us as people and it is important to know the past to better understand the strengths and weaknesses in us from our combined past.
The week saw special assemblies, tutor times and a competition on famous Black Britons which can be viewed here. The winning form in the competition with 100% was 8D2.
We also looked at how the flags that have been put on display in our community reflect national identity – and other factors – and evaluated what they present and how much they represent us all as individuals.
Matt allman, Headteacher, said: “History matters a great deal – who we are and from what we have been formed form is so very important. Equally, we wanted to talk to our students about the flags that are on display in our community and across the country. We are a multi-cultural school, with many different histories making up our combined past, and we want to celebrate that and acknowledge that we had so much that binds us altogether as Friary student, staff and more widely as human beings.”
