Students have been learning about healthy eating and ways of building healthy relationships with food.
In assembly, students have been learning about the nutrients they need for their bodies to grow, and the impact a restrictive diet can have on your health and wellbeing. Tutor activities included a nutrition quiz along with discussions about how to make healthy food choices. A cross-section of tutor groups have also completed a survey about healthy eating habits. School leaders will use this information to inform our Focus Weeks and PSHE materials for next academic year.
Outside the library, the Seward House Exhibition has also provided information about eating habits. All tutor groups contributed to the information gathering and research, then members of the Seward House Council designed the posters. Huge thanks to Beau-Brooke Hindmarsh, Isabela Can, Ben Hollywood, Indi Culvin, Josh Hunt, Jack Stainforth, Charlie Walters, Noah Malpass, Maisie Botfield, Angela Yi Lei Lai, Sam Derrick, Ted Plant, Jess Baines, Isabel Davies, Emma Baines, Harrison Hems, Emma Derrick and Will Barry for all their hard work in preparing the exhibition.
Another important part of the Focus Week has been to educate students about some of the complex mental disorders relating to food, diet and eating habits. By educating students about eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, we can help prevent the spread of misinformation, and also raise students’ awareness regarding help and support available, both in school and outside of school.
Sam Sullivan, Assistant Headteacher, said: “There are many pressures on teenagers about diet and lifestyle and this Focus Week was very much designed to offer support to our students so that they can better cope with all that society confronts them with. The students were positive in their activities, ready to take on board the key points, and the Focus Week added to our regular work on healthy living.”
