The Music Department has been praised by the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) for the high attainment levels in Music at the school.
The school has been awarded a ISM Bronze Certificate in Music (2017) by this respected organisation who have worked since 1882 to promote the art of music across the UK.
Deborah Annets, Chief Executive of the ISM, said: “We are delighted to recognise The Friary School’s achievement in music and celebrate the commitment to music education shown by the school in their high uptake and high achievement of pupils. Music is a valuable subject, it brings value in itself to pupils as well as supporting achievement in other subjects. Music also opens doors and generates educational opportunities for pupils from all backgrounds. We are delighted that The Friary School values music within their school curriculum and as the professional body for musicians and a subject association for music education, we are delighted to recognise this high level of achievement with this certificate.”
Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “Despite a national trend to reduce the curriculum, we are set on maintaining the Music and Performing Arts provision at the school as it gives our students a balance and inner confidence, as well as giving us the wide number of community projects we do that help our city. Our students grow as they perform in our wonderful cathedral, at local business events, with local primary schools, in local residential homes and on international orchestral tours, and these experiences contribute to the superb results we achieve.”
