The world our students are growing up in is a tough one. The benefits of social media are vast, but it can bring problems of bullying and abuse… the pressure to look and act cool is greater than ever… every photo has to be cropped and improved…. contact is 24/7.
Amidst this world, we are working with our students to make sure that they recognise that their behaviour is vital to making the world a better place to live in.
Every student has signed The Friary Pledge to Stop Bullying – either in checking their own behaviour or by challenging the behaviour of others. This pledge stands tall in the heart of the school and right next to the new Student Support facility which is the first-stop-shop if you are having any difficulties with school life.
Ian Rose, Deputy Headteacher, said: “The way that we behave towards others defines ourselves and so we place a high emphasis on respecting those around us. The anti-bullying message is consistent in our school – whether it be in day-to-day life or the world of social media at home – and we have high expectations that every member of our school playing a positive part.”
Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “This another part of improving the school environment by bringing high quality and colourful display to the school. Even more though, the Anti-Bullying Pledge is ideal for the centre of the school. We can teach Maths or History, Physics or Art, but how we treat those around us is far more important. It stands bright, it stands tall, and it stands central to our school’s values.”
