A survey for BBC Radio 5 Live has revealed that parents undergo stress during the exam season as much as their children.
The investigation revealed that:
- 24% said their own mental health had been affected by the pressure of their children’s exams.
- 24% said they lost sleep by worrying about the exams
- 42% sad not knowing how to help with exams and revision made them feel as if they were “not good enough as parents”.
- 52% said they would like more help and advice on how to support their children through their revision.
Oli Forster, Assistant Headteacher, said: “We are always conscious that parents want to support their children but can sometimes add pressure rather than relieve it. The hyperlinks below offer guidance but the key priorities should be to check when the exams actually are and put them on the calendar, be supportive, and praise and incentives often go a long way. We are always here to help too.”
The school is offering regular after-school boosters, holiday schools, Saturday Schools, online revision package (Maths and Science) and students are mostly now spending their time fine-tuning their exam prep.
