World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March is always a landmark in every school’s year and it has been no different at The Friary School this week.

There have been a range of assemblies, competitions, and lessons tied into the celebrations and, though we did not go down the costume route, there have been a string of events and long-term plans stemming from the special day.

Looking forward, we are planning to extend the publicity campaign on suitable reads to encourage more reluctant readers to pick up a book and have linked in plans to extend the school library so that there will be ample opportunity to improve that reading.

Ian Rose, Deputy Headteacher, said: “World Book Day is not only a celebration in itself but it is also a landmark to stop and reflect on what we are doing as a school and to put plans in place for the year ahead. This year has been no exception and the campaign to engage all students and families in reading is an important one.”
