The Friary’s Year 7 Boys Football Team put in their best performance yet to become Pool A winners of the Cannock and District League with a gutsy 3-1 win against league rivals Erasmus Darwin Academy (EDA) in a well fought match.

After a nervy start for both teams, Friary settled into the game well and were denied several times with good saves from the away keeper. However, just before the break, the deadlock was broken when Will Ferriday turned in a loose ball from a corner to put The Friary ahead.

After the break both teams fought hard for the next goal with two excellent saves from keeper Mason Yates keeping The Friary ahead. This fired up the rest of the Friary team whose constant pressure on the EDA goal was rewarded when Will Ferriday doubled his tally with a well taken finish.

The Friary put the result beyond doubt when Nyle Payne, on his debut, headed home from a corner to seal the victory.

EDA grabbed a late consolation when a goal mouth scramble was turned in off the boot of a Friary defender.

An excellent performance from the team who will play the winners of Pool B for the League Trophy next.
