FullSizeRenderAs part of our work on getting attendance to ‘outstanding’ levels, we staged another of our Breakfast Celebrations to those students with the best attendance and the biggest improvers.

The breakfast included free juice and bagels and the students were served by the senior teachers in the school.

All evidence shows that attendance is the biggest factor in deciding if students succeed and it is no surprise to see that those who miss school are usually the ones who miss out on their final exams.

Ian Rose, Deputy Headteacher, said: “We are making sure we target every child to get them into school – whether it be through panel meetings, rewards, mentoring or our breakfast celebration – and we are making sure we help every child to attend everyday.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “I spoke to a parent recently who expressed surprise that their child was being picked up for having 90% attendance. I asked them what would happen if they missed a day of work once per fortnight and they replied they would get the sack. They were surprised to hear that they were expecting to be sacked for 90% attendance.”
