carol-concert-2016The Friary’s annual carol concert at Lichfield Cathedral played to a packed house and the high standard of the performances brought glowing praise from local dignitaries, parents and governors.

The evening as led by The Reverend Cannon Dr Anthony Moore and included vocal ensembles, orchestra pieces, flute ensembles, and the ‘Shout It Out’ Choir. Additionally, there were readings from students and staff and popular carols for the congregation including ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ and ‘Once in Royal David’s City’.

The individual performances were all superb solos with Hattie Rumsey (‘Mary Did You Know ?’), Lily Hutt (‘Christmas Jazz’) and Jennifer Rose (‘Some ay at Christmas’’) taking the plaudits.

The whole event ran incredibly smoothly – thanks to David Purkiss, Director of Music – and the inspiring setting only added to the drama of the event.

Matt Allman, Headteacher said: “This was my first Friary carol concert and I was blown away by the wonderful performances and the confidence of the students in what is a truly amazing setting.”
