On Monday 3rd October, 15 Year 9 students attended an NHS careers event at the Staffordshire County Showground. The event was intended to show students that there is more to the NHS than Doctors and Nurses. In fact, there are over 350 roles in the NHS and many of these professions were at the event.
Our students were able to talk to these professionals about their role, what they had to do to get to where they are now and were also able to talk to local universities about what they had to offer also. We also had a go at many practical activities such as injecting an orange, taking blood from a ‘patient’ and practising CPR with the paramedics.
The event was just the latest part of our Raising Aspirations Programme which ensures that every single child gets advise and support towards their chosen career goal. Future events include more Raising Aspirations Evenings for students and parents to work together to plot future routes, mock job interviews, university trips, battle bus visits, apprenticeship talks, careers talks, ACE Meetings and the usual external careers advice that has been so successful in the school in the past.
Every child is expected to aim high, but we know it is vital to map out the standards, qualifications and pathways that allow them to get there.
