The Friary School’s Open Evening was staged on Thursday 6th October and attracted record attendances – with one parent describing the parking more akin to a pop concert than a school event !
The evening saw four addresses by the new Headteacher, Mr Matt Allman, as well as exhibitions by all subject areas, competitions to wins tigers and elephants (really!), sporting challenges, cooking tasks and bush-tucker trials, the public opening of the new Sixth Form Centre and much, much more besides.
Y6 students and their parents were given guided tours by students – including many Year 7s who were hugely confident in their roles despite only having been at the school for five weeks. This gave children and parents a real chance to learn more about the school – not through a glossy brochure but rather form the ‘horse’s’ mouth.
Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “The event was jam-packed and it was wonderful to meet so many fantastic Year 6 children from across Lichfield and beyond. We were careful to flag up our strengths and areas for development – not be disingenuous by pretending everything is perfect – and wanted to make sure it was a genuine information evening, not a hard sell. The feedback has been hugely positive and we hope we have helped every family to make their best possible choice for them.”
