Mr Allman presents Lily Morgan with her prize

The week beginning 19th September was a celebration of peace and understanding at The Friary School. Students enjoyed excited debate about some of the biggest successes of 2016 so far, such as team GB’s performance in the Olympic games, but contrasted these with considered reflection upon some of the very difficult to understand or explain events such as the deeply saddening attacks in Paris.

Activities throughout the week included assemblies, tutor sessions and a competition to research some of the iconic figures who have dedicated their lives to eradicating hate and bringing peace. Students explored how to stay safe in a complicated world last term and the peace and understanding week built on this important work.

Of course, there are literally thousands of iconic people who have done so much to spread a message of peace, love and understanding. We could have learnt about John Lennon, for example, or many others but we decided to focus our research on Nobel Peace Prize winners. Students who completed the most thorough research won a peace badge and entry into a prize draw to win a tablet.

The competition was fierce and we are pleased to announce that the winner of the draw was Lily Morgan, pictured receiving her prize below with our new Headteacher Mr Allman.

We realise that, after reading this, many parents will wish that they had the chance to win a peace badge so we are delighted to offer you that opportunity! Please follow the link below to the ten Nobel Peace Prize Winners we studied and send your answers to the questions to office@friaryschool.co.uk and include your name and the name of your son or daughter. If you get the answers right we’ll send you a badge while stocks last! In this way you can join all our students spreading peace, love and understanding Friary style!!
